Google Pixel Fold has a serious glitch you should see before buying

As we all know, Google has officially launched its first foldable mobile phone, the Google Pixel Fold. In an official promo, the company said that the Google Pixel Fold can be unfolded to 180 degrees. Indeed, most foldable mobile phones in the market fold up to 180 degrees so this should not be a big deal right? Well, it is a big deal because the Google Pixel Fold can not fold flat. After a couple of reviews, it was confirmed that the Pixel Fold can not fold flat (up to 180 degrees) easily. According to reports, this device can unfold up to 176 – 179 degrees. Twitter user, Michael Fisher who also did a YouTube review of the device was the first to point out this problem with the Pixel Fold.

His review reveals that the Google Pixel Fold can actually get to 180 degrees. However, users will need a great deal of force to get it there. Of course, no one will like to use such force on a $1,800 mobile phone. In his tweet, he also revealed some salient points about the Pixel Fold that people will want to know about

1. Thick bezel

He confirmed that the larger display of this device comes with really thick bezels. This is because Google used a hinge mechanism that needs wide bezels to maintain symmetry.

2. Waterproof

When you unfold the device, both screens are water resistant independently. However, this device supports IPX8 waterproofing and the hinge area can free-flood.

3. Crease

Google considered both the Samsung U-type hinge as well as Moto teardrop design which is wider. Actually, Google’s design is in-between these and there is a crease which is not so obvious though.

4. Pixel Fold can multitask

Before the official launch of this device, there were reports that this device will be poor at multitasking. This is because a leaked commercial was interpreted to mean that the device can run apps side by side. Well, this is not the case, the Pixel Fold can run apps side by side.

The Google Pixel Fold is the latest addition to the Pixel portfolio, and it is Google’s first foldable phone. The Pixel Fold is now available for pre-order and will begin shipping next month. Here is a breakdown of the full specs of the Google Pixel Fold.

Design and Display

The Pixel Fold has a familiar smartphone silhouette that fits in the palm of your hand and slides into your pocket. When closed, it is a full 5.8-inch Pixel phone, and when unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch screen with a thinner profile than any other foldable phone on the market. The exterior display is a Dynamic AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2,092 x 1,080 resolution, 408ppi, and a 17.4:9 aspect ratio.

The Pixel Fold is made with matte glass and polished aluminium, and it has a glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus) when folded and a plastic front when unfolded. The back of the phone is made of Gorilla Glass and it adopts the same bar design as the Pixel digital series.

Hardware and Performance

The Pixel Fold is powered by a Google Tensor G2 chip, which makes it fast and secure. This chip uses Samsung’s 5nm manufacturing process and it performs better than the Pixel 7 series. The phone has 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The Pixel Fold has a 4,500 mAh battery that supports fast charging and wireless charging. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor and facial recognition technology for security

Camera

In the camera department, Google placed the triple rear camera in the bar-like design that we find in the Pixel 7 series. The long strip-bar protrudes a little and it hosts a 48MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 10.8MP telephoto lens with optical zoom and a 10.8MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, this device comes with an 8MP sensor for selfies. The Pixel Fold has many of the same camera features as the Pixel 7 series, including Night SightPortrait Mode, and Super Res Zoom.

The phone also has over 50 Google optimizations, including a new multi-window mode that allows users to run two apps side by side. The Pixel Fold also has long-lasting software support, which means it will receive security updates and new features for at least three years

Price and Availability

The Pixel Fold is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping next month. The phone is priced at $1,799, which is costly for Google’s first attempt at a foldable phone. However, Google hopes that users will buy the Pixel Fold for its thin form factor, loaded camera features, all-day battery, multi-tasking skills, and long-lasting software support
